Hiero Veiga

Hiero Veiga

Biography

Hiero 'Yerro' Veiga, born in Cape Verde and raised in Florida, is a self-taught hyperrealist muralist known for monumental spray-painted portraits. Without formal training, he developed his practice on the graffiti scene of the southern United States before establishing an international reputation.

His practice revolves around the monumental portrait, with a particular focus on Black cultural icons — musicians, athletes, political figures. The artist has painted the exterior wall of Miami's Museum of Graffiti and collaborates with Mana Contemporary in Jersey City, where his murals now cover several converted warehouses used as artist studios.

In 2022 he was selected out of sixty international muralists by the Prince Estate to paint Minneapolis's first monumental tribute to its favorite son. The 500,000 $ project, funded by the Minnesota Twins, US Bank, Target and Best Buy, took him seventeen days and features three likenesses of Prince stacked across nine stories.
