Biography

Yulier Rodríguez Pérez, known by the pseudonym Yulier P., was born in 1989 in Florida, in the province of Camagüey, Cuba. Self-taught, he began painting at workshops in local cultural centers before moving to Havana in the early 2010s. From 2014 onward, his first monumental murals began appearing on the walls of the capital's ruined buildings.

His style is immediately recognizable: pale, lunar figures, hairless, often with no mouths on their faces but mouths on their stomachs, wide-eyed, shackled or pleading. These expressionist creatures function as allegories of the Cuban condition — censorship, hunger, exile. His works were erased multiple times by the authorities, who also imprisoned him for defacing public property.

Despite these obstacles, Yulier P. gained international recognition, receiving invitations to exhibit in New York and appearing in international media. In March 2025, he left Cuba to settle in Madrid with his family, after performing a final act: writing the word 'freedom' on a wall using his own blood.
