Biography
Ramon Martins is a Brazilian artist born in 1981 in Campina do Monte Alegre, São Paulo State. After a period teaching art, he moved into full-time artistic production, gradually working his way from the interior of Brazil to Belo Horizonte, Brasília and then São Paulo, where he established himself in the mural scene.
His work draws on Asian and African cultures, with ethnicity and biodiversity as recurring threads through compositions that weave together human figures, plant life and fantastical elements. He works in aerosol and acrylic, viewing the street mural as 'a tattoo on the body of the metropolis.' Internationally recognised, his murals combine anatomical realism with chromatic richness inspired by non-Western traditional arts.
Ramon Martins has painted across many countries, taking part in festivals such as the Streetart-Sommer in Hanover (2017) on invitation from the Gundlach real estate company, as well as events in Europe, North America and South America. His work is regularly featured in specialist urban art publications.
