Biography
Gear Duran is a muralist and multimedia artist based in Las Vegas, known for monumental murals across the Downtown and Chinatown neighborhoods. An urban-culture curator and researcher, he is described by local curator Brian 'Paco' Alvarez as 'without a doubt among the top hundred muralists in the United States.'
Together with Alvarez, he has articulated the style he calls 'Neo Urban Cubism': a fractured figurative language of saturated planes in electric colors borrowed from the city's neon, applied to subjects rooted in the imagination of the American West — wild horses, phoenixes, dragons, desert landscapes. His notable pieces include a 100 × 30-foot mural depicting a phoenix and a dragon as a contemporary take on yin and yang, and a protest mural against the Dakota Access Pipeline.
His practice spans murals, immersive installation and digital illustration, and the artist regularly teaches in community workshops across Nevada. In 2024 he painted 'The Spirit of Nevada' on commission from attorney Gerald Gillock, a tribute to the frontier and resilient soul of the state.
