Biography

Mirko Reisser, known as DAIM, is a German graffiti writer born in 1971 in Lüneburg and based in Hamburg. Active since the late 1980s, he quickly became one of the first artists to push graffiti lettering towards a full three-dimensional illusion, using gradients, drop shadows and strict geometric construction.

In his practice each letter of his tag becomes a sculptural volume: cubes, prisms and star-shaped forms that seem to jut out of the wall or explode from its plane. This approach has taken him onto monumental façades, silos, and onto canvases shown in galleries and museums (MuCEM, Urban Nation), always without leaving the grammar of traditional writing.

A member of the FX, TNB and Getting Up crews, he is one of the central figures of what came to be called the European "3D style". His public murals are present in many European cities and beyond: Hamburg, Berlin, Bologna, Marseille, Bangkok, Miami.
