WAONE Interesni Kazki

Biography

WAONE (Volodymyr Manzhos) was born in 1981 in Kyiv, Ukraine, into a family with a deep appreciation for art — his father collected Orthodox icons. He began painting on the streets of the Ukrainian capital in 1999 as a member of the Ingenious Kids crew, before transitioning to figurative and symbolist mural painting in the early 2000s.

In 2005, he co-founded the duo Interesni Kazki ('Interesting Tales' in Ukrainian) with artist AEC. For more than a decade, the duo travelled the world painting monumental murals across Australia, the United States, India, Brazil, Mexico and throughout Europe. Their style, rooted in Orthodox iconography, European surrealism and Soviet illustration traditions, weaves fantastical characters, esoteric symbols and visually dense narratives. Since 2016, WAONE has pursued an independent practice between Kyiv and Paris, also developing sculpture and easel painting.

His works have entered major private and institutional collections, including the Colección SOLO MAEGHT Fondation. He has created commissions for clients such as Hermès, SNCF and Paris Airport.
