Biography
Aleksi Ivanov is a Bulgarian artist and muralist born in 1988 in Varna, where he began graffiti in 2003 with tags and stickers. Self-taught initially, he gradually developed a personal visual language rooted in the urban environment — electricity boxes, abandoned walls and forgotten pedestrian passages become canvases for his naive, colourful characters. Holding a degree in Social Sciences, he co-founded the FAMOU collective and relocated to Sofia to devote himself full-time to mural painting.
His practice encompasses interior and exterior murals, 3D object creation, urban furniture interventions and print-on-demand work. He is particularly committed to working with children, believing that transforming ordinary public spaces stimulates young imaginations. His mural "Tales" (2024), painted in Bucharest as part of the BSBSA project, is a contemporary interpretation of the shared Balkan folklore of Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia, populated by witches, dragons, karakondzuls and other mythological creatures.
Ivanov has exhibited and painted across Eastern Europe, contributing to the cross-border Belgrade Sofia Bucharest Street Art (BSBSA) project that documents and develops the mural scene across all three capitals. His work is held at the National Gallery of Bulgaria and in private European collections.
