Joan Aguiló

Joan Aguiló

Biography

Joan Aguiló Cladera is a Mallorcan artist and muralist, born in 1983 in Palma de Mallorca. With a degree in illustration from the Escola Superior de Disseny de les Illes Balears and a degree in fine arts from the University of Barcelona (2008), he has developed a mural practice rooted in island identity.

His vocabulary draws on figures from Mallorcan everyday life — children, fishermen, farmers, popular gestures — rendered in earthy flat colour and supple line, often at monumental scale. He has painted in Mallorca, Spain, Germany, England, Denmark, India and Lebanon, bringing the local memory of the Balearic Islands into dialogue with an international sensibility.

In Palma his murals punctuate the city, notably at the Mercat de l'Olivar, Santa Catalina, the historic centre and as far as Deià. Together they form one of the most identifiable mural bodies of work on the island.
