Biography
Lake was born in East Berlin in 1979 and started writing graffiti in 1992, three years after the Wall came down. He has lived from his art since 1996, exhibited for the first time in 1997 and some sixty times since. His tag comes from the Los Angeles Lakers, the team he followed as a child.
His path extends well beyond mural painting. He lived and worked in Munich, collaborated with a Berlin agency in the late 1990s, directed a documentary between 2001 and 2004 titled The Flying Circus, published three books devoted to his work, and co-founded an artists' cooperative in Leonidio, Greece, in 2015.
Commissions and exhibitions have taken him to some fifteen countries, from Spain to Brazil and from Sweden to Mexico. That trajectory is characteristic of the German generation that came to graffiti in the early 1990s: trained in the street, professionalised very early, and working across several continents within the following decade.
