Biography
TocToc was born in 1991 and studied applied arts. He cites as influences the films of Tim Burton, the pop art of Keith Haring and Basquiat, and the work of Shepard Fairey, four references legible in a drawing reduced to essentials and turned towards quotation.
His characters have a name, the Duduss, and appeared on the walls of Paris at the end of 2011. Each one caricatures a popular culture figure within the same minimalist template: Michael Jordan Duduss, Tim Burton Duduss, Bat-Duduss, Super-Duduss and Salvador Dali Duduss. The series works by accumulation, with passers-by recognising the silhouette before the figure quoted.
The pseudonym comes from two childhood nicknames, Tatapo and Toctoc, the second winning out for its graphic simplicity. The work now circulates in galleries in France and abroad, without the street format disappearing: these figures turn up on walls in several countries, adding a note of humour to the urban landscape.
