Biography
Emil Mejnun, who signs as Moosem135, was born in Baku in 1995. After finishing school he spent three years in Florence studying graphic design and visual communication, training that reads directly in his street work: clean compositions, flat colour, an economy of means inherited from design rather than from lettering culture.
He then travelled across several European countries, producing pieces of widely varying size on equally varied supports, from small formats cemented to walls to large-surface interventions. That mobility explains the geographical spread of the work, hard to attach to any single national scene.
Now based in Baku again, the artist devotes a substantial part of his activity to studio work and to socially oriented projects, without abandoning the street. Moving from public space to exhibition space, he keeps the same graphic vocabulary, which gives the body of work a continuity rarely found among artists split between the two.
