Biography
Laura Merayo comes from Morales del Vino, near Zamora. She studied Fine Arts in Salamanca and at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where she completed a master's in artistic production and a specialist diploma in illustration. Her practice spans figurative painting, murals and portraiture.
She focuses on the crisis of rural Spain and the loss of cultural identity, painting masked carnival figures, Zamora garlic, the Águedas festivities and sheep. Mixing oil, acrylic and spray paint, she sets classical painting against an urban look, and has painted at festivals in Girona, Valencia, Jaén, Zamora, León, Palencia and Zaragoza. In 2025 she was one of eight artists selected for murals at Nau Bostik in Barcelona.
In summer 2024 she painted "Cacarea" for ArtAeroRap in La Bañeza: a little girl holding a hen, which she describes as herself as a child.
