Biography

Pablo Astrain is a Basque visual artist born in San Sebastián and raised in Algorta, Biscay. He came across graffiti at an early age and later trained in fine arts, which led him to muralism as a way of telling social and human stories.

His walls, painted in dark tones with loose brushwork, set figures inside intimate, reflective scenes and often look at social structures with a satirical eye. In Bilbao he painted a mural over 100 metres long in Olabeaga covering the hundred-year history of the city's symphony orchestra, and in Erandio a piece built from conversations with local residents.

He has also painted for the Paredes que Hablan programme in the Sierra Norte of Madrid, the 6 de 12 festival in Los Realejos (Tenerife) and Rexenera Fest in Galicia. In La Bañeza, his wall "Conociendo a los Dioses" on Calle Tejedores combines subtitles and epigraphs around a futuristic society.
