Biography
Born in Montevideo in 1986, Florencia Durán, known as Fitz, studied industrial design at the Universidad de la República, where she met Camilo Núñez (Theic). She started painting in the street in 2010 and went on to found Colectivo Licuado with him, a duo that paints large figurative murals across Latin America, Europe and Asia.
Her own work centres on women: the body, intimacy, sexuality and networks of female solidarity. Her compositions spread light through colour gradients, creating an optical movement with a psychedelic edge. Her first solo show, Nosotras mismas, opened at the SOA gallery in Montevideo in 2017, followed by an exhibition at Modus Operandi gallery in Madrid in 2021.
In La Bañeza she painted Yo elijo during Art Aero Rap in 2018: a woman pulling her dress over her head, the words "Yo elijo" (I choose) written on her forearm. The wall, about a woman's right to decide over her own body, was named among the ten most influential murals of 2018.
