Biography
Quintessenz is a German duo made up of Thomas Granseuer and Tomislav Topic, based between Hanover and Berlin. The two met while studying at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hildesheim, where Topic majored in colour design, and have worked together since 2008.
Drawing on graffiti culture, graphic design and colour theory alike, the pair combine painting, moving image and installation. Space is their starting point: their compositions borrow shapes and patterns from architecture in order to unsettle the way a place is perceived, sometimes covering whole facades with layered planes of colour.
In 2019 Quintessenz painted a long wall on Baratashvili Rise, facing Rike Park, for Tbilisi Mural Fest.
