Biography
Saro is the pseudonym of Vincent Ackermann, a Swiss artist who grew up in the suburbs of Lausanne. In the mid-1990s the city was the world capital of inline skating, and it was in that scene that he discovered hip-hop culture and the graphic world that came with it.
His work combines photography, collage and mosaic. He gathers pictures of posters, stickers and graffiti from the streets of European and American cities and from Lausanne's neighbourhoods, then pieces them together into mosaics that form portraits of women. He also works in photoceramics, performs live collage at festivals and events, and makes murals either as wheat-paste paper indoors or in ceramic tiles outdoors. In 2025 he was featured twice in Urbanarts magazine.
His work is shown by Galerie 337 (Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Courchevel, Geneva, Crans-Montana, Saint-Tropez), Victor Gallery in Zermatt, Papajosette in Divonne-les-Bains and Lausanne, and Linea in Morges. In 2024 he designed the poster for the first Val d'Arly Street Art Festival and created a large mosaic mural in Crest-Voland, returning in 2025 and 2026.
