Biography
David Perez works under the name SID, short for "Suisse, Ibérique, Déterminé" (Swiss, Iberian, Determined). Born on 13 June 1985 to a Spanish father and a Swiss mother, he lives in Gland, in the canton of Vaud. He trained as a pastry chef, confectioner and chocolatier and spent about ten years in the trade before retraining in graphic design and then turning to painting.
Self-taught, he wrote his first tags and bubble letters in 2003 and from 2010 moved on to characters and a range of styles, favouring realism, animals and landscapes. His first exhibition came in 2013 at Le P'tit Peintre in Gland. He paints with spray cans, brushes and airbrush, and his murals carry social and environmental messages: during the Covid-19 pandemic he painted tributes to nurses and supermarket cashiers around Gland. He is also a photographer, body painter and rapper, with five albums released between 2005 and 2020.
In 2021 he won first prize at the Graff n' Beer contest. He has also painted at the Val d'Arly Street Art Festival in Savoie, France.
