Biography
Sowan is a mural artist who has lived in the Drôme since 2007 and is based in Valence. As a teenager in Montpellier in the late 1980s, he discovered urban culture through skateboarding and painted his first spray piece in 1989, focusing at first on lettering.
For about ten years he has developed figurative work from digital images that he creates or edits with software, then transfers onto walls or canvas. His approach questions the shift from the immaterial image on our screens to its physical form. The European bee-eater, a colourful and elusive migratory bird, has become his recurring subject.
An art teacher, the artist is the founder and spokesperson of the Sorry Graffiti collective and co-organiser of the Walls & Love festival in Valence, where he painted "Merops gigantis" in 2024.
