Nelio

A self-taught painter born in 1982 and based in Lyon, Nelio learned his craft largely by travelling, working on walls and in the studio. His early pieces relied on lettering and pared-down figures; over time they became abstract compositions ruled by a geometric logic that owes much to constructivism, suprematism and his training in graphic design, with an interest in the tension between opposing elements. Outdoors he paints murals and makes impromptu installations, while his studio output covers painting, drawing, collage, assemblage and sculpture. His walls can be found in London, Paris, New York, Sydney, Toronto and Montreal, and he took part in the Teenage Kicks biennial in 2021. For the sixth Points de Vue festival in October 2022, Nelio covered a facade at 58 avenue du Capitaine-Resplandy in Bayonne with sweeping lines and circles.
