Biography

Rezola grew up in Itsasondo, in the Goierri district of Gipuzkoa, where he was born in 1974. While working as a welder in the metal industry he started painting walls in 1998 under the tag Dizebi, producing detailed, realistic pieces of children and people on the margins, often paired with lines of text about hunger and inequality, across towns such as Beasain, Zumarraga and Ordizia. He left factory work in 2007 to study fine arts at the University of the Basque Country, completed a PhD there in 2018 and now teaches in its sculpture and art and technology department. His current practice, both murals and video essays, turns on the idea of work: productivity, performance, competition, tiredness and idleness. Two of his walls, painted for the artistic season of the BetaB gallery, are listed on the Points de Vue map of the Basque Country.
