Biography

Born in Calais in 1980, Yann Chatelin, who signs Poze, took up drawing at 16 through graffiti and painted intensively for about ten years. He then spent some fifteen years in Morocco before settling in the Béarn, in south-west France. His work is built on Arabic calligraphy. He invents alphabets that borrow from Sanskrit and Arabic while keeping a Latin letter structure, and moves between figurative painting and calligraffiti. His walls can be found in Bordeaux, Calais, Casablanca and Kathmandu. During a 2022 Points de Vue residency in Ustaritz he painted "Nora goaz?" ("Where are we going?"), a ferryman in his boat, named with local residents and prompted by that summer's water shortages. Galerie Kaxu in Bayonne showed "Scripto Sensu" in early 2024, a show about handwriting fading away in the digital age.
