Jean-Charles Couderc

Hailing from Aveyron in the Rouergue region of southern France, Joan-Carles Codèrc (Jean-Charles Couderc in French) calls himself a "paretalista", a wall artist, and works as a visual artist centred on the Occitan language and culture. Occitan came into his practice relatively late, and his work now sets out to make the language, geology and geography of Occitan lands visible. Murals, drawings and written interventions on walls, paper and in natural settings make up his output, with lettering and typography at its core. His series "Dançar sens memòria" draws on his personal path to learning Occitan. He often works with the artist Gérard Marty as the duo "fòra man", and in October 2023 he took part in the Points de Vue festival, including a creative residency in Bergouey-Viellenave.
