Biography

Nicolas Masterson, known as Taroe, was born in Bayonne in 1981 and started writing graffiti in 1995, teaching himself on factory walls, wasteland and trains while also working in typography, design and photography. He later moved toward a figurative painting style shaped by photorealism and city atmospheres, on walls and on canvas, alongside commissions for film sets, advertising, logos and illustration. As artistic director of the association The Next Movement, he painted a 2,500 m² mural across the grain silos of Les Sables-d'Olonne harbour in 2022, drawing on old postcards of salt workers and Belle Époque bathers. Other walls include Saint-Denis station (2016) and Saint-Ouen's Docks district (2021). In his hometown he took part in the 2018 Points de Vue festival with a wall on rue Albert 1er.
