Biography
Based in the French Basque Country, Benjamin Jeanjean works as an illustrator, visual artist, muralist and tattooist. He drew from childhood, studied visual communication while painting graffiti, and worked as a textile designer before turning to art full time. Across illustration, ceramics, installation and wall painting, his figurative style draws on old engravings as much as contemporary imagery, using skulls, skeletons and chains to deliver absurdist, darkly funny images with room left for the viewer's own reading. His 2021 show at Art by Friends, In loving memory of the 21th century, featured porcelain pieces decorated with cobalt powder, and the gallery also set up his Cosmos edition knife with Opinel. For Points de Vue he painted a wall on placette Justin Bourdaa in Bayonne.
