Biography

Born in 1980 and based in Besançon, Aurel Prevost trained as a forest ranger and taught himself street art, starting with stencils on the walls of his hometown in the early 2000s. After a collector bought one of his stencil matrices, he turned to hand-cut paper, spending hundreds of hours cutting black paper with a blade (sometimes adding gold leaf), and began pasting these lace-like pieces in the street in 2011. He cites Symbolism, Mucha's Art Nouveau, tattooing, religious lace images and pop surrealism as influences. His Metamorphosis series, begun in 2013, merges fragments of faces with plant forms inside detailed geometric frames. Galleries showing his work include Speerstra in Switzerland, Mathgoth in Paris and Shepard Fairey's Subliminal Projects in Los Angeles.
