Shi Qiren

Shi Qiren is a painter from Shanghai. In 2006 he was selected to paint the wall of the Chinese Ideal City in Lyon, known as the Shanghai Fresco, at the corner of Boulevard des États-Unis and Rue Villon in the 8th arrondissement. Commissioned for the 20th anniversary of the twinning between the Rhône-Alpes region and Shanghai and carried out with the Cité de la Création, the mural joined the painted-wall trail of the Tony Garnier Urban Museum. Around a great stone lion, it brings together symbols of ancient and modern China: terracotta warriors, Peking opera, porcelain and the Shanghai skyline with the Oriental Pearl Tower. Five other Chinese artists appear in it as trompe-l'oeil figures.
