Biography
Fernando Sawaya, also known as Cazé, is a visual artist from Rio de Janeiro who grew up between the Copacabana and Lapa neighbourhoods. He began with graffiti in the early 2000s, went on to study graphic and web design, and taught himself motion design. For around a decade he has focused on murals through a project he calls Urban Biographies, painting from his own photographs and putting street vendors, workers and other overlooked city dwellers at the centre of his scenes. In 2018 he co-founded Negro Muro with producer Pedro Rajão, a project that celebrates Black figures on walls across Rio. His murals can be seen in Brazil, Africa, Europe and Latin America, and in 2026 he painted at Plein Champ, the urban art festival in Le Mans's Parc du Gué-de-Maulny.
