Biography
Alejandro González, known as Mono González, born on 2 March 1947 in Curicó, is one of the major figures of Chilean muralism. Trained at the Experimental Art School in Santiago between 1963 and 1967, he painted walls for Salvador Allende's presidential campaign from 1968, then became the lead designer for the Brigada Ramona Parra, founded the following year. His visual language comes from that work: flat areas of bright colour outlined in heavy black, made to be painted fast, by several hands, and read from a distance. Also a set designer for theatre, film and television, he co-signed "El primer gol del pueblo chileno" with Roberto Matta in 1971. He still paints around the world, including in France, where he passed through Le M.U.R Oberkampf in 2019 and Le M.U.R de Bordeaux the following summer.
