Biography
David Kümin, known as Chromeo, is a Swiss artist born in 1982 who grew up in Winterthur. Drawn to murals and illegal graffiti as a child, he picked up a spray can as a teenager and has been an active figure of the Swiss graffiti and street art scene for more than 25 years. A graduate of the Lucerne School of Art and Design in fine arts, public spheres and art teaching, he paints in a figurative, photorealistic style, sometimes combined with classic graffiti lettering and cartoon elements. He wants his work to carry real substance rather than serve as decoration, and to draw the viewer into engaging with it. In 2020 he painted, with Bane, the right-hand panel of the huge Change of Colours mural in Basel: a 3D spray can surrounded by flowers.
