Biography
Camille Walala is a French artist and designer born in 1975 and based in East London. After graduating in textile design from the University of Brighton in 2009, she scaled her patterns up to the size of architecture: facades, bridges, public squares and inflatable installations. Her style, which she calls "Tribal Pop", draws on the 1980s Memphis Group and on the Ndebele house painting of southern Africa, with flat blocks of bright colour, stripes, checks and simple geometric shapes. Her best-known works include the Rich Mix facade in Shoreditch, the "Captivated by Colour" covered bridge at Canary Wharf (2020) and the "House of Dots" Lego house at Coal Drops Yard (2020).
