Biography

Johannes Brechter is a Munich-based artist born in 1979. Before enrolling to study sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich in 2004, he trained as a sign and neon maker, which is where he learned hand lettering and typography. Rooted in graffiti, his work has grown into an abstract visual language that blends typographic shapes with illustrative elements, carried across sculptures and installations built from recycled materials, collages and murals. With Armin Kiss-Istok he covered the construction hoarding of Munich's Glyptothek in 2019-2020 ("Neoglyphen"), and in 2024 the pair painted the "Fusion" facade in Ramersdorf. He has twice been invited to Rosenheim's transit art festival: "Pokal" in 2023, then in 2025 a mural designed with the residents of a care home.
