Biography
Fares Cachoux was born in Homs, Syria, in 1976. Trained as a computer engineer at the University of Aleppo, he went on to earn a master's degree and a PhD in digital art and visual communication in Paris, and spent close to a decade on the digital side of museums in the Middle East before turning to art full time in 2021. His visual language is that of the poster: solid silhouettes, hard-edged flat colour, and the fewest possible elements to carry a complex event. Politics, society and the environment run through series he calls visual manifestos, often carried by female figures. His work has been shown at Banksy's Dismaland in 2015, at Djerbahood in 2021 and in a retrospective at the Institut du monde arabe in Tourcoing in 2024.
