Biography

Rocco und seine Brüder is an anonymous Berlin collective of four members, grown out of the city's graffiti scene, active since 2000 and under this name since 2016. Its raw material is urban infrastructure itself: underground tunnels, street furniture, advertising panels, institutional façades.

The group drew international attention in 2016 by furnishing a complete living room inside a disused U-Bahn tunnel, then installing a full office at the same spot a few years later. Its interventions are political and satirical: housing and gentrification, surveillance, arms exports, the far right, with subverted memorial stones outside the AfD headquarters or a Walk of Shame rolled out in front of the Axel Springer building.

The collective favours staging on site over the lasting object: almost every piece is dismantled afterwards and survives only through photography and the press. It features in the Love Letters to the City exhibition at the Urban Nation museum, from 2024 to 2027.
