Biography
Héol, who signs his walls Heol Art, is a Breton painter and muralist born in Finistère and based in Ille-et-Vilaine. He trained in advertising design at the Auray art school and turned to street art in the early 2000s, after a year spent in Barcelona. His fauvist manner, built on bold colour and fast brushwork, carries just as well from canvas to building-sized walls. Archive photographs feed most of his large-scale work, which he devotes to working-class memory: miners, deep-sea fishermen, women on the factory floor. In Le Mans he wrapped the former tobacco manufactory in a triptych painted over three summers, from Les Manufacturières (2020) to Les Manufacturiers (2021) and La Vie hors la Manufacture (2022).
