Biography
Roman de Laporte, who paints as Jack Lack, grew up in Stuttgart and lives in Cologne. He came out of graffiti and has spent the past several years working mainly on large-format murals, using brushes, rollers and spray cans.
His signature lies in the edges: sharp contours dissolving into wide fades, so that the subject seems to step out of the wall or sink into it. Windows and mouldings are worked into the drawing rather than painted around, and animals dominate a repertoire that almost always deals with the relationship between the city and the living world.
His walls stand in Germany, France, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Japan: Generation solidarity for the Street Art Fest Grenoble-Alpes in 2022, Heavy Load in Caldas da Rainha in 2023, Focusing in Bonn in 2024 with Semor for a project pairing art with biodiversity research, Invisible Cages at Swindon Paint Fest, Bonded in Weston-super-Mare for Upfest, Decay in Assen for the Drents Museum, and Shika in Osaka in 2025.
