Biography
A self-taught artist based in Rotterdam, Marloes de Kiewit paints indoor and outdoor murals, shop windows and objects for individuals, companies and institutions, and also works as an illustrator and easel painter. Her work began in black and white, built on heavy line work and dotwork, before opening up to colour.
Her walls layer two treatments: a clear line drawn in white over volumes modelled realistically, often across a single animal or face. Birds, flowers and portraits of women make up the repertoire, with stippling used to give depth to faces and a constant search for balance between strength and vulnerability, movement and rest.
Public commissions take up a growing part of that practice: a robin painted with Rewriters010 in the street of the same name, a heron chosen by a residents' vote on a pumping station in Delfshaven, a mural made near the De Hef bridge with paint that cuts CO2 emissions, waste containers transformed in 's-Hertogenbosch and Leeuwarden. In 2025 the artist painted a tribute to the town's volunteers for the Blind Walls Gallery in Breda.
