Biography
Lucy Lucy is a Paris-born painter and muralist who moved to Australia in 2006 and is based in Melbourne. She came into the Australian urban art scene through collaboration, notably with the AWOL crew, and her practice also runs through performance, photography and clothing design, which shows in the attention she gives to fabric and pattern.
Her painting puts women at large scale: archetypal portraits built from flat areas of saturated colour, dense texture and repeated motifs. The work reads as a contemporary feminine folklore, drawing on both her French background and the cultures she works in, with figures of resilience, transmission and reconciliation set against geometric screens or plant forms.
She paints for councils, festivals and brands (Nike, New Balance, Dr. Martens, Marriott, Federation Square) across Australia and Europe. Her walls can be seen in Melbourne and regional Victoria, in Darwin and Geelong, and in France and Belgium, where she took part in the L'Art habite la Ville trail in Mons and the Wall & Love festival in Valence.
