Bakcyl Studio

Bakcyl Studio is a Warsaw mural studio based in the Ursynów district and active since 2008. Zuzanna Podlewska, Bartosz Podlewski and Marcin Ślusarczyk handle every project from the graphic concept through to painting the wall itself. Since 2014 the studio has run the Ursynowskie Murale programme, funded by the district participatory budget, which has covered some twenty gable ends across the housing estates. Its walls draw on local identity: the bear from the Ursynów coat of arms, a sleeping Warsaw Mermaid, characters from the cult series Alternatywy 4, and footballer Kazimierz Deyna painted in greyscale with anti-smog paint. The drawing is crisp, built from flat geometric colour areas that read from street level.
