Spookernox

Spookernox is the working name of Charlie Sutcliffe, an illustrator and muralist born on the south coast of England, trained in London and based in Valencia. A writer and illustrator published by Tate Publishing and Abrams, he moves between editorial commissions and walls, having worked for the BBC, Penguin, HBO and Sony. His drawing borrows from Victorian scientific illustration and turns it into narrative scenes full of eccentric characters, then carries over into screen printing and paper mâché sculpture. He has painted in the United States, Scotland, Ukraine and Spain: a 100 sqm wall in Fanzara in 2017, community projects in Chernobyl in 2018, the neurological ward of the Niño Jesús hospital in Madrid in 2020-21, and the outside walls of the Radio City venue in Valencia in 2022.
