Biography
Hanna Daly has been painting murals in San Diego since 2005, the year she started her studio Hanna's Murals. Self-taught and now a licensed contractor, she counts more than 1,500 walls painted across California, working solo and by brush.
Her practice sits outside graffiti: the work is commissioned, for shops, schools, hospitals and brands. The imagery draws on the ocean and Californian beach life, with waves, palm trees, hibiscus flowers and hand-lettered beach signs painted in trompe l'oeil. Close to a hundred murals went into Rady Children's Hospital, with others for Uniqlo, Marriott, the Birch Aquarium and the Kona Big Wave brewery.
She also foregrounds a low-waste practice, painting with reclaimed and donated paint, and is vocal about being a woman and an LGBTQ+ business owner in a trade where both remain uncommon.
