Onkel Dose

Onkel Dose is the working name of Martin Scholz, born in 1986, a communication designer who turned graffiti into a full-time practice in Cologne. He has been painting with spray cans since 2002 and founded the Onkel Dose studio in the heart of Ehrenfeld in 2015, first as a graffiti shop, then as a workshop dedicated to commissioned murals, facade painting and beginner classes. His work pairs bold, legible lettering with aerosol figure painting, often on tall blind gables reached by cherry picker. His pieces include a Spider-Man: Miles Morales mural for PlayStation, "Das Zuhause für Azubis" painted in 2021 on the Kolping apprentice residence on Fröbelstraße, and a 150 sq m wall painted 17 metres up in 2024 for the Kolpingwerk's 175th anniversary. Since 2023 his 150 sq m studio has been on Windmühlenstraße, close to the Rhine.
