Esk Reyn

Esk Reyn is a multidisciplinary artist born in Istanbul in 1987, where he still lives and works. He started painting graffiti in 2000, enrolled at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2006 and joined its sculpture department in 2008. His visual language starts from the mechanical and architectural forms of the city, abstracted into contrasting volumes that owe as much to 1990s 3D graffiti as to science-fiction comics, and carried over into metal sculpture. He co-founded the Mural Istanbul festival in 2012 and remains one of its organisers, and is also co-founder and art director of the Mural East studio: together they have covered dozens of walls in Kadıköy and Sarıyer. Outside Turkey he painted The eye in Cologne for the CityLeaks festival in 2013, and the Ursulines skatepark in Brussels with Nuka for Europalia Turkey in 2015.
