Biography
Captain Borderline is a Cologne collective founded in 1999, bringing together A. Signl, B. Shanti, Dabtar and M. Wallace. Their line is explicitly political: they paint large socially critical murals with caustic humour and an avowed taste for provocation, setting themselves the task of constantly erasing the boundary between utopia and reality. Mass surveillance, the distribution of wealth, anti-fascist memory, human rights: every wall is an argument. Their practice goes beyond mural painting to take in screen printing, animation, film and installation, often in partnership with NGOs such as Amnesty International. In Cologne-Ehrenfeld they created "Surveillance of the Fittest" on the Ehrenfeldgürtel and, as Shanti and Signl, the 2012 mural "51 perCent" on wealth inequality.
