Biography
Goodlack Art is a Cologne facade-painting duo formed by John Iven and Ron Voigt, working on commissioned murals since 2004. Their practice leans towards narrative figurative painting rather than lettering: trompe-l'œil, documented historical scenes, industrial landscapes and surrealist compositions, each time fitted to the building and the client. In Cologne they are behind several landmark pieces: the memorial to the Edelweiss Pirates, the Cologne youth movement that resisted the Nazis, painted on the railway embankment walls at the corner of Schönsteinstraße and Venloer Straße, on the very site of the executions; the complete redesign of the pedestrian underpasses at Ehrenfeld and Hansaring stations for Deutsche Bahn; and the wild-animal mural on Glasstraße. They also work on schoolyards, playgrounds, carnival floats and interiors.
