Biography

Orticanoodles is an Italian duo that has been working out of Milan since 2003, formed by Walter Contipelli, known as Wally (born in Carrara in 1977), and Alessandra Montanari, known as Alita (born in Milan in 1975). The name comes from Ortica, the district where they set up their studio. They are known for meticulous multi-layer stencil work, used for monumental portraits of cultural figures such as Andy Warhol, Charles Bukowski and Joseph Beuys, almost always paired with a fragment of a quotation from the person portrayed. Their OrMe - Ortica Memoria project turned their own neighbourhood into an open-air museum. After taking part in Banksy's Cans Festival in London in 2008, they painted for the opening of the Urban Nation museum in Berlin in 2017, and they show regularly in galleries.
