Marc C. Woehr

Marc C. Woehr, born in 1973 in Heilbronn, is a German artist based in Stuttgart. He started out in graffiti in the late 1980s within Stuttgart's skate culture, before trading the night-time wall for a studio and a more compositional practice. He translates aerial views of cities into layered wooden reliefs, designed on computer and then laser-cut. His palette of whites, blacks, greys, reds and oranges points back to the Russian avant-garde, Malevich and El Lissitzky in particular. The street as smallest unit and the city as matrix structure his entire body of work.
