Sophie Mess

Sophie Mess is a British artist based in the Devon countryside, known for large botanical murals built around oversized flowers. Largely self-taught, she dropped out of university after three weeks and spent five years in London learning the trade alongside graffiti writers around Brick Lane, working in the mural industry for clients such as Burberry and Microsoft before developing her own floral language. Her saturated, hyper-detailed compositions, often punctuated by hummingbirds, aim to bring nature back into the urban landscape and stem from her belief that art has a real effect on mental wellbeing. She has painted in France (Laon, Le Mans), Italy, Sweden, Belgium, the Netherlands and across the UK, including Upfest in Bristol in 2022, and was invited to Miami's Wynwood Walls in 2024.
