Raphaël

Raphaël is a street artist from Bordeaux. He paints colourful compositions in which shapes and characters interlock, and his signature lies as much in that inventiveness as in the sheer density of detail: the hand is precise and the world instantly recognisable. His most accomplished murals are strictly symmetrical, built around a central face or mask ringed with psychedelic foliage in flat, vivid colour, flowers and small creatures outlined in black. His work can be seen on the Darwin site, quai des Queyries, where he signed a floral deity against a starry ground, and on rue Hortense, where a symmetrical totem spreads across a black wall.
