Biography
Nhobi, whose name is Fabio Cerqueira, is a Brazilian street artist from Rio de Janeiro who has been based in Marseille since 2012. He started tagging at thirteen, went through fashion design and his own clothing label, then turned to mural painting full time. His signature: cheerful, childlike comic-book characters, grimacing, with bulging eyes and bared teeth, often in a bold yellow, mixed with the bright colours, music and tropical plants he brought from Brazil. Most of his walls are in Le Panier and around Cours Julien, with a much-noticed piece on Rue Oberkampf in Paris in December 2018. He also painted the walls of Les Mirettes in 2013 and 2018, and takes part in the Matutos project, which gives the forest a symbolic place back in the city.
