Jorge Charrua

Jorge Charrua is a Portuguese painter and street artist born in 1991 in Vila Franca de Xira. He took up graffiti in 2004, graduated in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, and has worked as a full-time artist since 2015, between studio and murals. His work brings the timeless languages of the history of painting into dialogue with contemporary subjects, on the belief that we are the product of what we absorb from the past. His intimate portraits carry a nostalgia fed by his childhood and the 1990s, where hip hop culture and video games surface, and melancholy holds a central place in them.
